  The Barbara Anderson Appreciation Thread

  there are many newcomers who may see references on this website to barbara anderson but not understand the complete awesomeness of what she has done, and continues to do, in the pursuit of truth.. for those who don't know, a brief summary: barbara and her husband joe spent most of their lifetime being uber-witnesses, bringing 80 or so people into the organization and ending up at brooklyn bethel.

  Is it really okay for a JW to lie?

  been away from the wts for 13 years and noticed at jwn many are mentioning its now okay for jw's to lie, if....... its for the right reasons.

  like misleading the jw's and worldy people about district convention parking.

  to raise monies for the wts.

  I have the elders in my hall and the CO lie right to my face over having three child molesters in my hall. Well come to think of the whole body of elders lied to me before we moved to this hall and I told them I had a hard time being around pedophiles they all told me that they would be there to help me and the very first thing they did was make my husband a book study overseer of a level 3 sex offender. A lot of help that was.

  Did you loathe going in field service, if so why?

  i always felt like i was not a "spiritual" person because i loathed going in field service.

  i'm not even sure why i loathed it.

  i am very outgoing and can talk to anyone, anytime, about anything.

  If I could have talked to someone with out the other JW I was with judging my every word. As soon as I got back into the car I was told that how I talked at the door was horrible and that I should have said bla, bla, bla instead.

  When I got married my husband was the only elder in this country hall. No one would walk to any door, we drove and drove and drove. It was even more frustrating being told I was horrible at the doors in the rural's because once one started in on me the others in the car did too. Honestly I did not think I was that horrible, in fact I once started a bible study on the first call the lady at the door was very excited to study with me. As soon as I got back into the car this elder told me I was not able to handle a study and gave it to another sister in the car group. The householder was even upset that I was not the one studying with her.

  I know my stories sound strange, but this is truly my life experiences in this religion. Once one person in this religion starts to pick on you the others soon join in.

  Also in the country there were a lot of places where people were growing pot. The last thing they wanted was one of Jehovah's Witnesses showing up. We had guns drawn on us, shot up in the air at us. It always freaked me out because many of my fellow car mates had no brains. I have been with JW's who would snoop around the place look in the sheds, etc. I was like you have no place to be looking around like this.

  All in all I hated field service because we never tried to help the householder come into the "truth" it was all just such a show of who was better then the other.

  They are the best. I was at Bethel when they were there. I worked with Joe. You could not find a more kinder person than he was.

  Barbara is also just as wonderful. Very great and loving people they both are.

  We owe so much to them for all the hard work they do. Barbara is just amazing. The work she does is just so great. Thanks.

  did you like being called "brother" or "sister"?

  i always found it very patronising, particulay as most of the jw's who did that treated me very badly and not like a sister at all!.

  i also hated when brothers would say " i've met a lovely sister and i'm planning to marry her!

  " sounds so incestuous!

  I have always hated it. I remember when I was just a kid and some elder would say brothers when we get into the new system not bothers and sisters. I was just five and six years old. I remember truly thinking that us sisters would not be there. When I got older I realized that the elder was just to lazy to say brothers and sisters.

  I just hate it. My husband is always saying it. Brother this or sister that said yad, yad, yad. I am like you mean Bob, or Joyce, or Tom. To me if they were brother or sister I would have been invited to their homes at least once in 8 years but since I have never been allowed to step into their homes they are not a brother or sister to me to me. They never seems to have a problem coming to my home but I am not good enough to be in their homes.

  OK I have brother and sister. Just hate it.

  Sexual abuse and how the WTS handles it - 2 issues that get confused

  the wts proudly proclaims that its 2-witness rule is sufficient to deal with cases of sexual abuse.

  and internally they would have the right to hold to that policy.. but they fail to separate the internal handling of the case with the external -- going to the authorities.

  the wts uses it 2 things to stop jws from going outside the congregation.. they believe their policy is higher than the world's policies on dealing with the abuse.

  I am sorry for the spelling mistakes. I am just in a hurry to get to work but wanted to respond.

  I also forgot to say Lady Lee great post. I am so glad that you are doing this.

  I also asked the brother at Bethel if a child was molested what would happen because no one is allowed to know that we have sex offenders in the hall not even the parents of small children. I told the brother that is was unfair and crazy to not at least inform parents so that they could make sure their children were safe.

  When I told him about the pedophile holding the little girl and dancing with her in the KH all with all the elders watching and saying nothing he said I could not know if that child was molested. I answered him but we do know that a convicted child molesters should not hold children especially in Kingdom Halls right? I asked who would be held responsible for a child being molested. He said hopefully that it would never happen. I told him being most child molesters do not stop the odds are very high that it will happen again. This Brother at Bethel again paused for almost a minute and then said the elders have clear direction on how to handle this.

  I asked point blank then will you at Bethel help if a child is molested. He just kept saying the elders have clear direction. My husband asked what that direction was and there was no response, just that they have clear direction in writing. My husband was an elder and he told this brother that the direction he knew of was not clear and so what did he mean by clear direction. The Brother at Bethel would not answer but but just kept repeating again that the elders have clear direction.

  Frustrating and very upsetting.

  Lepermessiah thanks for trying to stand up when you were an elder. That is also why my husband is not longer an elder. I was a victim of abuse and it affects your whole life.

  Again please forgive my spelling I am sorry for being in such a hurry and I am not good at spelling this is a very upsetting topic for me. And thanks again Lady Lee.

  I have not had the chance to read all the responses but I know in my hall there were three convicted pedophiles and they were deemed safe by the elders.

  No parents were told who these men were and I was accused of causing divisions by being up that one of the sex offenders was holding children and told that I could be DF'ed over saying anything to parents. This has been in just the last three years.

  I also spoke to someone at Bethel just two months ago and I asked him point blank, as did my husband why they go door to door without at least an elder or MS and also we both asked by parents cannot at least be told. The Brother at Bethel was very frustrated with our questions, put me on hold for over a minute and then said he could not answer my question.

  I am 46 years old and I had a friend who was 94 years old. She was such a neat lady. Very opened minded. I first got to know her by cleaning for her but she fast became a friend. We would go to the movies together and out to eat. So even though she was 48 years older than I am and could very well have been my grandmother we are of the same generation?

  Well that makes sense. NOT! How stupid do they truly feel we are. She herself would always say in my generation when I was your age. She was not a JW of course, or she would have understood that we were the same generation. LOL

  Oh and "GOOD FOR YOU" GOOD FOR YOU" this one elder would say that when you talked about going to the meetings. Hated that.
